I've been on break for the past week, and I've literally done nothing. /Nothing./ And I'm not misusing the word literally. On the one hand, I feel bad. On the other...fuck it. I don't care. Which is troubling because lately that's been my attitude toward everything.

I also can't believe I'm about to graduate in about three months. HOW DO PEOPLE DEAL??

I'm not ready to be an adult yet. But I also know I can't put it off forever.

Anyway! Psych! The remake episode. Before we got into the commentary, I have to admit I totally don't remember the original episode at all.

I was gonna post all my reactions on Twitter, but then I thought maybe that'd be spoilery, and then I thought, maybe no one would care to get spoiled about Psych if they're not already watching. Ah, anyways, I've decided to post all my reactions on here, just to be on the safe side. Because I really want to get into the spoilery goodness but I also don't want to inadvertently spoil anyone.

SERBIAN GANGSTER THUGS OMG (or were they the mafia? I think officially they're supposed to be part of a mafia but I like calling them gangster thugs /for reasons/). What the little dialogue I could catch--the thugs were yelling but there was gun fire so most of it was muffled for me--sounded like the correct Serbian. (At one point I think one of the thugs was yelling for his partner to aim at the window.)

It reminded me of the story arc on One Tree Hill's final season when Nathan Scott was kidnapped by the Serbian mafia and I thought the writers were creative in using thugs of a nationality no one used. And then I thought about it some more and realized, hah, the Serbian mafia, rightly, didn't really portray the culture in a positive light. WE ARE REALLY LOVELY PEOPLE, I SWEAR. I suddenly and heart-wrenchingly know how minorities feel--though I am aware that it's not really the same thing at all. (But still...I guess my point is that I'm wary whenever a specific nationality/race is portrayed in popular media.)

I really liked the episode though. Jules! Kicking a tree into the river! And taking out the Serbian gangster thugs mostly by herself with Lassie watching her back like the awesome partners they are! Not a spoiler: Gus and Shawn end up being mostly useless, of course. I laughed when I shouldn't have--especially toward the end when the stakes were getting high and I just couldn't keep it in because it was so absurd but so uniquely Psych. Bless the little show that could, I still love it.

ALFREDO! ♥♥ I love that the episode we get him back and find out he's officially Sherlock's sponsor is the episode in which he teaches Joan how to break into cars. Hey, it's a bonding moment. I want him to be involved in all of Joan's & Sherlock's cases from now on, though I know that might be impossible narrative-wise.

I liked that the episode also introduced us to Joan's friends, people she knows outside of her relationship with Sherlock.

I felt like mostly this was Joan's shining episode (Sherlock was there, but more in the background, being the good mentor he is to Joan), and though there were a few mishaps, she was kickass. And I loved the ending scene. BABIESS.

Apparently dates are being announced for returning shows for the fall tv season already:
Castle comes back Monday, September 24
Once Upon a Time comes back Sunday, September 30
The Vampire Diaries come back on Thursday, October 11

Psych is also supposed to come back sometime this fall but probably not until late October or even November.

But I have no idea when fall semester starts though. Priorities, I have them.

(And uh, I have no idea where I've been for the past three weeks. I'm gonna try to get back into posting awesome comic book moments for the 100 Things Challenge but I haven't been feeling very excited about comics these past several weeks. Am hoping that might change soon and I can get back to the challenge. This is why it'd be helpful if you planned things better, self.)

This is in no way a respectable book blog but I don't think it matters - at least I hope it doesn't.

This meme is hosted by Anna at The Weekly Enthusiast.

1. CHLOE SULLIVAN-QUEEN (from Smallville)

Chloe was definitely a major reason why I got into Smallville only when it *ended* (because The New Adventures of Lois and Clark will forever and *always* remain my first beloved Superman show and I want nothing to take its place, but Smallville might up up there with it as my fave show about Superman/Clark). She's just so AWESOME AND BAMF AND I JUST WANT TO BE LIKE HER AND I WANT HER TO BE REAL DAMN IT WHY ISN'T SHE REAL *SOBBBING*

2. ZUKO (from Avatar: the Last Airbender)

I can't articulate very well why I love Zuko except to say that I love his journey in AtLA; I love what kind of a person he becomes by the end, how very complex his character was. (I didn't like him very much at the beginning but mid-s2 or something like that, I found myself becoming very sympathetic to him and by s3 I was completely smitten by him.)

3. BURTON GUSTER (from Psych)

I can't explain my love for Gus without descending into a squealing mass of incoherence and blubbering. I just - he's AWESOME. OK? Trust me, if you hate Gus, then there is seriously something wrong with you.

4. MYKA BERING (from Warehouse 13)

I think while I've talked about loving EVERY FREAKING CHARACTER that comes through WH13, the one character that I *both* adore to pieces and find myself relating to the most is Myka. And we all like seeing ourselves in fictional characters.

5. STEFAN SALVATORE (from The Vampire Diaries)

This show is...ridiculous at times. In good and bad ways. And I have a lot of ~feelings about it. But the one thing I will always know is that Stefan Salvatore is VERY AWESOME AND MY FAVORITEST (with Damon and Caroline and Bonnie and Elena and Jeremy and Rebekah and Tyler as my other favorites).

Rane Arroyo

We met in proud Utah and wore opaque
vodka on those vague Sundays for the
unfaithful on your dangling back porch
while dreaming of the very New York

where we entangled for the last time.
Te quiero, you said there, my ears as
paths. You then vanished with a macho
because I had a lover, because we’d

never ride across Russia together in
that frozen train, because listening
to A Chorus Line all those weekends
didn’t teach us the foreign language

of our bodies, because of your career
as a model after years as a military
mannequin, because we never expected
adios to be our actual parting last word.

Because, because, and because. You
turned around to stare at me and I waved
back: I love you too. What an education:
poetry always demands all my ghosts.

Also, saw the s6 finale of Psych. WTF?!! Seriously, that ending still has me shocked and angry. And season seven won't be premiering until the fall, which seems like years away. (If anyone else on my flist sees it, PLEASE TALK TO ME ABOUT IT. BECAUSE I CAN'T HANDLE IT. Especially what happened *before* the last five minutes.)
dahlia_moon: (Sokka's ready for takeoff)
I kept waiting for some awesome Mason/Alaric/Damon and wheeeeeee!! someone finally answered my prayers - Here Comes Another Fall from Grace (I'm Always Falling On My Face)

And this is the lone story I wrote for Fall Fandom Free For All:
Sigh. It doesn't look like I'll be filling in any of the other prompts. Some are awesome and I'd like to write more for it, but the blankness I get whenever I try to start one of them is mocking me and so I start hating it and walk away in a huff. Well, fine prompt, if you don't want to be written, I won't write you. *iz five*

Speaking of writing, I started a document a while ago where I drop random titles that pop into my head for future stories that I might want to write. So far there are only several titles with no stories:

oo1: this isn't the apocalypse, but if it were, there'd be more angst

oo2: all the right moves

oo3: strawberry girl

oo4: the last will and testament of bruce wayne

oo5: the batgirl club

Of course, it also happens that the ideas I do have floating in my head and that I'm trying to write down have no titles. I don't even know.

Also, more speaking of writing: trolling[ profile] mini_nanowrimo's friends' page, I found that someone had linked to something called Yarny...which looks like it's a writing program. Or something. For serious writers, who attempt novels every November (aka people who are NOT me but it looks fun to fool around with).

I haven't fooled around with it too much, but it looks like a plain Word document that also acts like an outline thingy. (I know there're similar programs out there but they cost money and this one looks like it's free>.) Which is yay for me because outlining for me does not end pretty. It's also providing to be useful for when I'm not on my own laptop, I can just log-in and access all my stuff (I know I could just email things back and forth between myself or have a private entry on here, but I'm pretty horrid at keeping updated versions and this saves automatically so you don't have to keep re-sending yourself emails or re-editing journal entries). Because I try to not turn on my own laptop until I get all my studying done and out of the way, but sometimes inspiration strikes and I can use my parents' notebook to jot things down. So there's that. And it has tags too, and you can color-code stuff *nerdgasm*.

And it's been awesomely easier for me to keep track of mini_nanowrimo stuff and daily wordcounts because there's a built-in word counter!! yayyy!! and I don't have to have a million word documents of sh*t saved on this - when I'm basically running out of disk space, as it is.

And my anime self:

I tried to put this up on Tumblr where I got it from but the image preview thingy is wonky and the image ends up being a very teeny, tiny not-quite-like-the-others image. Bah. So here's the site.
dahlia_moon: (girl power)
My life these past two weeks has mostly been flashcardville because I'm a flashcard kinda girl apparently. And passing out in bed without having turned on the laptop all day. But, the good news - still about a month and a half of flashcardville and passing out. Joy.

I seem to be using both DW and Tumblr for all my episode ramblings. And I really ought to stick with just one to be consistent (I feel like I'm developing dyslexia because I wrote constant but that didn't feel right for some reason except I had no idea what the right word was that I was searching for), but sometimes it feels right to blather on about Psych on Tumblr and sometimes it feels right to blather on here. So I guess I'll use both for now until I've made up my mind one way or the other. (Not that anyone probably cares a great deal what I thought of all these shows I watch but it's awesome for me to get all my thoughts down.)

Also, signed up again this year for Mini NaNoWriMo, with a word count of 150 words for the next thirty days. I thought that was a reasonable, but still somewhat challenging goal. (November is just such a sucky day to commit to writing a novel - at least for me.)

and a meme that's going around:
Come knock on my door by replying to his post with 'trick-or-treat' & I'll respond with a small something -- sentence fic, an icon, a declaration of my love for you, a pic, etc. ♥
dahlia_moon: (SGA team awesome)
  • Terra Nova continues to be awesome. I love pretty much everybody on it. I just wish they could tell us more about what the year 2149 was like. I know we know the gist of it, but some flashbacks wouldn't be remiss, show. And I know the point of the show isn't that the characters dwell in the past, but look to the future, and yadda-yadda ya, but if they don't look to the past every once in a while, they'll end up making the same mistake. And there won't be a rift in the time-space continuum then that they can escape to. Just sayin'.
  • Sped through the first season of Spooks/M1-5 which was kinda easy for me since it was only six episodes. I have spoiled myself on the subsequent seasons and if it weren't for Rupert Penry-Jones and Richard Armitage appearing in later seasons, I'd just give up now.
  • Psych is back!! Yay. The show is kinda ridiculous in a campy, I-don't-think-that's-quite-how-you-do things sort of way, but I love that it can be a silly crime show. You can laugh for an hour and I appreciate that. The sixth season premiere episode was so freaking awesome.
  • There was fic posted over the weekend. cover the earth with roses (Persuasion) and I told her all my heart (North & South). They're really short but I've found it's quite hard to try to write for period dramas if you totally don't want to be OOC (for either the characters or time period).
And I continue to watch way too much tv and movies. I blame Netflix. That devil.

dahlia_moon: (Katara - Hearts)
I have no idea what's happening to Psych but the episode "In Plain Fright" was...lacking something? I have no idea but it just didn't feel like Psych, at all. And I don't think it's just the Shawn/Juliet stuff. Or maybe it is and I'm just trying to overlook it because I really, really do want Shawn/Juliet to work out. The season 5.5 premiere was really cute and I did love how they hooked up. (SHE MAKES HIM WANT TO BUY A CAR!!! Although I really hope that he doesn't get rid of the bike anytime soon because it's central to his character and if he gets rid of it, he will not be Shawn, he will be a pod person.) And I don't think Jules being in a relationship will necessarily detract from her character - at least I hope not. I mean she's still kick ass and can punch a guy's lights out.

I do wish they didn't go in the predictable way of hooking up the male lead with the female lead, but they did and I'm not totally against it but it just seems forced, which I guess is why so many non-Shawn/Juliet shippers are against it but again, they are kinda cute and ugh, I totally want them to work. The only thing that really bothers me to the extreme is that Shawn doesn't seem to be feeling guilty at keeping this HUGE lie from Juliet. If this were fic, readers would be up in arms about the behavior being OOC and it is and, besides the little bit of guilt we were shown that he was feeling when she was with Declan, it's like it's not there at all now. I really hope they don't keep avoiding it forever, is all I'm saying.
dahlia_moon: (Psych- ShawnxLassiter)
Written purely because I wanted porn between Karen & Juliet and there's so little of it out there in the fandom pool. As such, this is a PWP and has no redeeming value whatsoever.

Title: the place you & I meet
Rating: NC-17
Fandom: Psych
Character/Pairing: Karen Vick/Juliet O'Hara
Prompt: For table #5, prompt #2: Restraint @ [community profile] 100_women
Notes/Warnings: graphic descriptions of sex between two consenting ladies and teeny, tiny hints of a D/s relationship, but very small and not focused on at all.
