I really liked my assignment! And I love writing gift fics. And why I wish this story was longer and better and...Well, it did go over the requisite 1k words, but I'm still not happy with it. I think it featured waaaaaay too much exposition and telling, not showing and ughhh. I had the perfect story in my head. While flopping on what to write, I finally decided on showing something about Audrey's, Duke's, and Nathan's relationship which I really love. And I really want this threesome to be canon like no threesome ship I've ever shipped before. I just really love both Duke/Audrey together and Audrey/Nathan together and Duke/Nathan together.

The Duke/Nathan fic though--which I've tentatively titled 'there are no words, there is only you'--is still chugging along. I really want to finish it before the end of this month, but, eh, we'll see. *thinks about the pile of reading for school I should be doing right at this moment & the amount of writing I want to do and it's enough to make my head explode*

In more personal, real life news, we have a cousin coming from Serbia this Friday and both my Aunt J (who this cousin is staying with while she's in America) and my mom are going crazy, trying to get their houses ready. Mom yesterday tore up the rugs in the kitchen, scrubbed the floors clean, brought new rugs and then set up the bigger entertainment system Aunt J threw away and gave to us alongside our older, albeit smaller entertainment system.

I'm like, wheeeeeeee! Yes, cleaner carpets~!!! New bigger entertainment system!!! Is it Christmas already?! (We've had the old carpets since we moved here somewhere around when I was in the fifth grade i.e. 2001 so it was about time.) My dad, otoh, who was standing around, helping when Mom needed to move something, went, "Why all this fuss? She's not staying with us, we're only going to be entertaining her when J is at work."

My mom's reply was something along the lines of how everything over there is much cleaner and we'll be judged if we don't do something.

So there was that.

It just brings to mind that, if I ever have my own place (ha! do I have big dreams) and if my mother, and/or any other family member, ever comes for a visit (assuming I don't live a block away by then), I'll have to tear up my whole place and clean it from the ground up.

The point being, I *don't* enjoy living in a pigsty and I love when everything is clean and has that shiny, new look but I just don't want to do the work to entail that cleanliness. Why does life have to be so hard?

So, yeah. I had written this way before I went to see Star Trek Into Darkness (like a day before, I think it was?) so it's not STID fic, but based on the first rebooted movie; only tonight I finally managed to proof-read it. The interesting thing, for me personally, is that it's in Spock's p.o.v. mostly, which is shocking because a. never would I have entertained I'd write anything Star Trek-ish (it's a wonderful fandom sandbox to play in, but so intimidating, quite like comics fandom, because there is this whole history behind it, and it's a cultural movement, and GUH! where would one even start? Which is why nu!Star Trek is so hopeful) and b. even if I were hypothetically to have entertained the idea in the first place, I wouldn't have pictured Spock to be my fandom ice breaker as it were (well...Kirk/Spock, but more Spock than the ship because, alas, the 'ship is practically nonexistent in this fic).

Also, another interesting thing is Kirk here says he's fine a lot, and in Star Trek Into Darkness, I noticed he says he's fine too. This was purely coincidental, and I don't believe him in either case.

NEW TV and WRITING

• Terra Nova continues to be awesome. I love pretty much everybody on it. I just wish they could tell us more about what the year 2149 was like. I know we know the gist of it, but some flashbacks wouldn't be remiss, show. And I know the point of the show isn't that the characters dwell in the past, but look to the future, and yadda-yadda ya, but if they don't look to the past every once in a while, they'll end up making the same mistake. And there won't be a rift in the time-space continuum then that they can escape to. Just sayin'.
• Sped through the first season of Spooks/M1-5 which was kinda easy for me since it was only six episodes. I have spoiled myself on the subsequent seasons and if it weren't for Rupert Penry-Jones and Richard Armitage appearing in later seasons, I'd just give up now.
• Psych is back!! Yay. The show is kinda ridiculous in a campy, I-don't-think-that's-quite-how-you-do things sort of way, but I love that it can be a silly crime show. You can laugh for an hour and I appreciate that. The sixth season premiere episode was so freaking awesome.
• There was fic posted over the weekend. cover the earth with roses (Persuasion) and I told her all my heart (North & South). They're really short but I've found it's quite hard to try to write for period dramas if you totally don't want to be OOC (for either the characters or time period).

And I continue to watch way too much tv and movies. I blame Netflix. That devil.

I had a Shelfari account, which I loved because it displayed all your books on like a javascripted magical bookcase (other book sites don't have that, blah) but now I totally can't log in. *sad, pitiful noise* (Well, I actually can now, but I had to make a new account when I logged in with my Amazon account because, apparently, now you can log into the site with your Amazon account. I'm just really tired of other websites taking over and changing the login requirements. I don't use my Amazon account for anything other than it being a convenient "wish list".) Oh well, not like I'm good at finishing books I start or keeping an online log at these websites.

There's this wonderful article titled "Fandom is Magic" recounting one woman's introduction to fandom. And I'm always up for reading how others discover fandom and what kind of experiences they have - it's just such fascinating stuff. The one big thing I got from the article is that fandom is a safe haven, if you will, for marginalized groups, which I totally agree on, but it makes me wonder. Is that why I love to read and write slash stories? Is it because reading and writing slash fics means I'm somehow "fixing" what seems to be a "predominant heteronormative perspective"? I don't know. I'd just venture to say that it's more about characters and who I love to pair up together with and that romance is very fascinating to me and, compared to other genres, something I want to invest a lot of time reading and writing. (Not that I mean to say I don't like any other genres beside romance, because I do, but some genres speak to me more than others.)

There was fic today (well, really I worked on it all month and then gave up on what I had so far and then started from scratch and then had the inspiration to finish it last night and then did some quick proofreading this morning).
