Sep. 7th, 2012 08:56 pmSigh. I think my hotmail account was hacked into and it sent a weird message with a link to several people.
If you get a message from me, please don't click on it. I think it might be a virus. It has nothing on it except for a link. The only reason I've been alerted to this is because of the Delivery Status Notification that says it can't email the message to some of the addresses (because these email addresses it tried to email to are old and I never updated them or deleted them from my contacts. What can I say? Sometimes my laziness is a godsend.)
I've changed my password but that's about all I can do at this point.
I hope no one's computer gets severely damaged by this.

Aug. 4th, 2012 10:04 pmThursday night I started having laptop problems. It would overheat like crazy in minutes and the little built in fan on the bottom couldn't cool it down fast enough so it shut off by itself.
I can use the laptop as long as I keep it from overheating - which translates to using it for about ten minutes before hitting the hibernation button to cool it down a bit before I turn it on again and then surf for about ten minutes and/or until it gets hot again and then let it sleep for five minutes again until it cools down and then rinse and repeat.
It's a solution, but not a long-term one.
Does anyone know if it's a battery problem? And can I buy a new battery and replace it with this old one or would I need to start saving up for a brand new laptop? (This Toshiba laptop isn't old exactly - I got it summer of '10, I believe? So I do want to avoid buying a new one if the only problem is the battery - which I suspect it is but then again I'm computer illiterate when it comes to the hardware stuff.)
At least I can be grateful the tech problem started when I don't have a dire need for a computer but still...

→ What about fanfic in general makes you read it?
Oh, just expanding on the original source material - how so many people can approach a 'ship, character, plot, etc from so many different perspectives. I also like that with fanfic (and other general fannish pursuits) the story never has to end, even if the original source material had ended years and years ago.

I've been thinking about buying something for my computer because I'm rapidly running out of disk space and I need to do something.
Would a flash drive just work to store things on? I don't need to carry it around, which I gather is the purpose of a flash drive, but I really like how flash drives are so small, sleek, and awesome-looking.
I suppose what I really need is an external hard drive but those would be (more) expensive, wouldn't they?
Just, gah, this flash drive is so technologically attractive. But then so is this awesomely pretty black hard drive. Or maybe this one?
