Defiance and Spartacus
Jun. 9th, 2013 05:22 pm- So Defiance is a freakin' awesome sci-fi show. I had seen it promoted up the wazoo and was like, eh...maybe someday when it's on hiatus I'll catch up on it (because it stars Jaime Murray) and then I randomly chanced upon a marathon on tv and...well, the hot alien sex made me want to watch it now. Oh, and also apparently the use of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven." So yes, there' hot alien sex (kinda censored). And hot lesbian sex (mostly censored in that the characters are clothed and shown only to be kissing, but they're on A BED so clearly bed = sex in my mind). No gay sex yet which is kinda sad. :(
- Speaking of gay sex...there IS gay sex in Spartacus! (the 2010 tv series that was on Starz) And it's NOT CENSORED. AT ALL *confetti* (well, duh, it's on *Starz* and not the *SyFy* channel, although both shows are violent and graphic so really the sex portions shouldn't be censored on Defiance either--although, yes, Spartacus is like a GAZILLION TIMES MORE VIOLENT/GRAPHIC than probably /anything/ in the history of tv [not counting horror movies but even they're debatable). Yes, we apparently need to see people's heads cut off.) No, I'm not really watching Spartacus (yet...) because of the above mentioned gratuitous violence/graphic stabbings (and the apparently gratuitous porn, but BOTH women and men are walking around half-naked/all naked most of the time on this show so I can forgive it if both genders are equally objectified) but well...I stumbled upon this couple (Agron/Nasir) who are apparently introduced in the second season and my head's been buried in the past week in JUST WATCHING ALL THE CLIPS. Oh, show, what've you done to me? It's such an awesome show because [SPOILERS]the aforementioned interracial couple is the only couple left standing alive in the end (besides maybe some supporting characters we've never seen who might've survived the last battle) and they walk off into the sunset together[END of SPOILERS] and it's so beautiful.
- So I find it pretty sad that to see any homosexuality (or hints to other kinds of love/sex beside the hetero-normative), you either have to be into sci-fi shows (and not even /all/ sci-fi shows at that) or bloody, violent shows? Like pick the less mainstream genre you'd be the most okay with watching?
- [ETA] also: the dialogue on Spartacu is the /shit/! I mean that in a good way. They talk like Romans in ancient times would've probably spoken. ("I would have words." and "Gratitude" and it's just so lovely and I wish I could talk like them all the time.)
