*****
In the beginning of the end, they gravitate toward each other. It doesn't make sense and the timing couldn't have been more wrong.
But love, as Angela finds out too late, is never convenient. It slithers into your life like a snake and pounces on you when you least expect it. But the funny thing is Angela doesn't think this is love. It can't be love. It's too sudden and feels too wrong.
The darkness envelops it and doesn't let loose of its hold. That's all Angela can hope with Jake. That's all there is; just meetings in the night; corners in darkest booths, and desolate beaches under the blanketed deep-blue sky of white stars. The chill whips past the space between their bodies; seemingly endless and deep as a galaxy, but in reality only an inch of separation. But Angela feels that inch between them growing wider and wider, instead of smaller and smaller. Like it should.
She isn't his first love, she abruptly realizes one night, all alone, waiting for him to appear as if by magic by her side, silent and brooding. That's not what disturbs her heart into violent shakes and the uncontrollable urge to cry and scream at him though because damnit she gave up everything for him. It's the thought that after all this time, she still isn't the one who's always on his mind.
She never will be…
She doesn't realize when the air turns colder and she becomes numb…when the world suddenly shifts into a darker atmosphere on its axis.
