cottoncandy_bingo's round one amnesty ended and I've only completed about three of the fics. Um, oops? I've been working on a fourth one and it's giving me so much pain. I just want OT3 kissing and hurt/comfort making out/sexy times! Is that too much to ask for, story, huh, is it?!! (apparently, yes >:)
- I hope this is addressed later, but it's not possible that Sinbad accidentally killed Lord Akbari's son, right? Especially with that Taryn being a creeping creepster. (I also hope that scene was intentionally leading us to believe that Taryn was the one who killed Akbari's son, and not Sinbad or at least that's how I interpreted it.)
- JAMIL :(((((((((((( I knew you weren't gonna make it past this first episode, but you were such a precious baby.
- I was initially confused about why Sinbad's world was changing and then we get to the scene about science becoming their "master" and magic growing weaker as a result. HELLLLO TROPE I LOVE. Taryn is definitely in the Evil Magic camp, while Grandmother Safia is in the Good/Benevolent Magic camp. ALSO GRANDMOTHER SAFIA YOU ARE SO AWESOME AND BADASS. I WISH YOU WERE ON SCREEN MORE. <333 (Sinbad calls her Amah which I find adorable.)
- Also something I hope gets addressed (although not likely): why is Sinbad's + Jamil's mother catatonic? :/
- Tazeem. You are precious. Well...for only about four episodes.
- :((( I hate that Nala also lost her father. I liked that guy. ://
- Raies was a douchebag, but I get his father wanting to get revenge for who he thinks is responsible for his death...but he really should be more suspicious of Taryn. I mean, really, dude, she's just pulling the wool over your eyes left and right. I like the Emir though. He might be the "science!" guy more than the "magic!" guy (that's really Akbari's and Taryn's realm to play in, honestly), yet he reminds me of those grandfatherly types.
- The magic here is sometimes so hilarious--and unintentionally so. Like, they don't even try to explain any of it and it seems inconsistent. I don't need the magic explained but I need to feel like I understand this universe and I don't. That's just bad storytelling. I dunno. It does seem to be more action-oriented than anything.
- "Hunted" was a little heavy-handed on trying to sell the fact that Sinbad and Gunnar aren’t the same people who started out on their little adventure in the pilot. And that’s commendable but, otoh, I don’t think they’ve changed all that much? And so it feels forced and not at all like a natural progression of their characters. (So far, the only one whom the show has focused on building a full narrative around is Sinbad…which I guess makes sense as his name is in the /title/ but still…the other five characters are just as intriguing as Sinbad.)
- Obsidian and the Khaima were really fascinating as well, but I fear they were probably just one-ep characters whom we will never hear mention of again and that makes me sad. (They apparently go after blood-thirsty killers and recruit people they think might fit in with them, but other than that, they’re a total mystery.)
- I started respecting Taryn, but now? Not so much. I dunno if it's the writing or what, but she's coming off as being sillier than anything.
- I just want more Nala. And Rina. And Anwar. I'm really loving these in three particular. Sinbad and Gunnar aren't too bad either but they're not my /absolute/ favorites.
