I GOT IT! I GOT IT!

I finally have the sequel to Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer, New Moon in my possession!

I thought I was going to have to wait until Sept.6, but five days ago, I called a bookstore I live nearby and the guy said he had a copy, but that he sold it already and that he was going to call me when another copy arrived. Well, about two today he called, and my brother took his bike and went to get it for me. (He had to buy a history book for his AP History class there as well, so he volunteered to get my book for me.)

I'm in love now. With a book.

I'll buy Twilight someday too, so I can have my own copy to gush over. And I'll also buy Eclipse next year when it's published. I'll have my own little library of Stephenie Meyer books.

I'm getting excited just thinking about it. :)

Now, I have to get back to reading it and gushing over all that is lovely.

New Moon and Twilight both sound interesting. I never heard of them before. What are they about?

Twilight is about this girl named Bella Swan who moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father when her mother remarries a minor league baseball player. There she meets Edward Cullen, who's this amazingly handsome guy and they become best friends and fall in love with each other. But there's obstacles they have to overcome along the way since Edward is a vampire. But he's a good vampire, a "vegetarian" vampire, meaning he doesn't drink human blood, but animal blood.

It's very romantic. And New Moon is the sequel to Twilight. In this second book, Edward leaves Bella because his brother almost loses control and tries to attack Bella when she gets a paper cut. He goes to Italy to ask another clan of vampires who aren't "vegetarians", to kill him. Bella goes after him to save him.

Anyway, basically these summaries are just the gist of it. Stephenie Meyer's writing is phenomenal. I would compare her to J.K. Rowling, just less known.

And these aren't your typical fantasy vampire books. I know some people shy away from vampire books, since they think all vampire books are categorized into the horror genre. But this novel leans on more toward the romance genre. Of course there is some horror mixed in as well (the sequel is a bit darker than the first book), but it wouldn't be a vampire novel without some horror in it. These books actually purify vampires a bit. Especially those vampires who are vegetarians because that shows their goodness in spite of their damnation. She makes them very human-like and they (the Cullens) aren't very dangerous vampires since they swear off human blood, not that they aren't tempted sometimes (like in the second book, when Jasper attacks Bella). But they try to be civilized, which includes not killing people to drink their blood.

It's also not your typical vampire novel for another reason. And that reason is, Ms. Meyer dispels all those original vampire myths in her books. Like for example, in her world, her vampires don't melt in the sun. They instead sparkle like diamonds. It's just a refreshing look on the vampires who have been fictionalized as monsters throughout all the eras of books & movies.

I like the books because I'm a hard-core romantic and fantasy nut. I think, overall, she's going to have five (or six?) books in the Twilight series.
