(Going back to school next week for my last semester as an undergraduate. I'm kinda sad we only got a three-week break this time around. Usually, it's a month. What happened to that, school? Huh??? I'd like to be able to go to graduate school, but that's more of a "someday" for now--my parents are on pins & needles enough as it is for me to graduate and get a job already. I know what most of you are thinking: my parents do not have to live my life for me so if I want to go to graduate school, I should be able to, but yeah, no. It's a bit more complicated then that at the moment. My parents are the practical, wise folks while I'm off with my head in the clouds dreaming of reading poetry all day long, or getting a BA in English, it amounts to the same thing for them in the end.)

Fandom Snowflake Challenge - Day 7

In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

So I started writing this piece of meta a long time ago, and then it just languished in my drafts folder, uncompleted for the longest time. I don't even remember now what prompted me to write it in the first place? LOL, A+ self. But I wanted to finish it up finally, and publish it somewhere, even if I still have no idea how to write meta. Or if this really is meta. And then this challenge came along, and it's forcing me to finally complete it and spruce it up for public consumption. Anyways, have some Louis Litt feels and thoughts. (I really didn't foresee loving him as much as I do all the other main characters, but I do. Also, though I'm up to s3, this only takes into account seasons 1-2.)

I love people talking about their own writing and feedback and meta-ish thoughts on those subjects. So two links on Archive of Our Own's kudos function:

Today's poem:

"Prodigy"
Charles Simic

I grew up bent over
a chessboard.

I loved the word endgame.

All my cousins looked worried.

It was a small house
near a Roman graveyard.
Planes and tanks
shook its windowpanes.

A retired professor of astronomy
taught me how to play.

That must have been in 1944.

In the set we were using,
the paint had almost chipped off
the black pieces.

The white King was missing
and had to be substituted for.

I’m told but do not believe
that that summer I witnessed
men hung from telephone poles.

I remember my mother
blindfolding me a lot.
She had a way of tucking my head
suddenly under her overcoat.

In chess, too, the professor told me,
the masters play blindfolded,
the great ones on several boards
at the same time.

You can also listen to the poem being read by the author.

This poem might've come around during the last five National Poetry Month extravaganzas I did around here or not (Charles Simic has definitely been featured here before), I don't remember, but he is one of my favorite contemporary poets ever. Ever.

Really, the reason why these stories got as much hits as they did was because they featured hot guys getting it on with other hot guys. Alas, gen and femslash pieces do not get as many hits.
