Someone needs to please stop me from buying a Sonic Screwdriver - there's a steampunk version too.

Because really, why would I need it. I don't cosplay.

But having one in my possession would make me feel like a total badass.

3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows.

[livejournal.com profile] lil_1337 gave me the letter G:

Gregory House from House
. So I'm not sure if I even consider myself a fan because I don't watch it regularly, just catch random episodes here and there. I just really like the medicine aspect of the show. House seems to be like a major jackass with no redeeming values whatsoever and I can't see why anyone would like him except the man is quite gorgeous but that's more Hugh Laurie than House. And then I see episodes where some of his humanity comes through and I realize that the man is not a jackass simply because he wants to be a jackass, it's just that he's honest and brutal and that sometimes doesn't win you over a lot of fans (his and Sue Slyvester 's character from Glee are quite similar to each other because she's not my favorite character either but I never know what to feel about her exactly). I guess the simplest way of looking at it is that they're both very complex characters so you can't really hate them or like them without wavering (at least I know I can't, I know they have their fans and to them I say, mazel tov).

Greg Sanders from CSI: Las Vegas.
I've fallen away from this show, and I did get interested rather late so the catch-up has been slow and mostly focused on watching only episodes with my favorite characters (which mostly consist of minor characters and the "Lab Rats", although that's not to say I don't like all the major characters either). But now the show is like in its 12th season, and I feel like some much of the show has changed (naturally...as it has been like eleven years it's been on the air) that I can't really get into it with all the excitement that I kinda sorta had since its sixth season. But anyways, Greg's character is awesome and who I fell in love with right away. Greg started out as the quirky lab technician with the wild hair and the colorful shirts, but then he developed and matured into a geeky, cool, sexy guy, less with the colorful shirts and wild hair (which I miss) but his character is still so very awesome.

Grumpy from Once Upon a Time
. Admittedly, when you think about the seven dwarves, you don't think of them as individuals but more as a collective, but with OUAT (as it does with every aspect of fairy tales), it develops the characters more deeply than the original versions do (and I'm glad to see this trend continue in other media, if the trailer for Mirror, Mirror with Lily Collins and Julia Roberts is anything to go by - them dwarves there look like they're very much individuals and not part of a set). Grumpy seems to be an honorable dude who believes in true love and takes the good with the bad. But my favorite dwarf will always be Dopey.

Burton "Gus" Guster from Psych
. Oh Gus. The ways in which I love you are innumerable. I know he's playing the straight-man to Shawn's comedic role, but I love that he's anal and so smart and so loyal. I don't understand why he doesn't have to beat people away with a stick, with how very awesome and sexy he is. Seriously.

Geordi La Forge from Star Trek: The Next Generation
. Alright, so I have to admit that my most, most favorite Star Trek series? Totally Voyager. And I feel like I can say this with authority even if I haven't seen the original series or Deep Space Nine or Enterprise or pretty much any other series in the franchise. Which is one of the major reasons why I don't consider myself a "Trekkie" because real fans would love everything in the franchise. But Geordi is awesome. He's nerdy and cool and smart. I love his friendship with Data too. He always does what he has to, even if that means he has to disobey orders, and I think that's partly because his convictions are strong and he's just an all-around admirable character.

some honorable mentions:

Galia the Orion girl from Star Trek (2009). So she's only at the very beginning and shows up briefly toward the middle of the movie when the characters go off on their separate ships to go to Vulcan, but she was very pretty and very perky and you could see that she was meant to be the total opposite of Uhura even if her character wasn't totally developed. I dunno. I just liked the little that we saw of her. She was kinda quirky.

George Kirk from, again, Star Trek (2009). He was only in the movie for 15 minutes and then [SPOILER] and...but I just really love him okay. Also apparently that was Chris Hemsworth playing him?
dahlia_moon: (X/1999)
So, for the past week, I've been rewatching Hana Yori Dango Returns, and I'm reminded why I love this j-drama so much, and how it's fantastic beyond words.

(Of course it's resulted in me losing some sleep which could've been beneficial for me to get, but meh.) And then I got my hands on the manga, and yes, this is going to be the end of me because I've been so consumed with finishing the manga, and trying to remember to eat and shower, and sleep, and get out of my room once in awhile so my family doesn't forget me what with my being cooped up in my room all day.

Aaaauhhh.

I don't know which is better, and I've been trying to hunt down some good fics, and read them. It's exhausting, but for some reason quite good to have something which I can obsess about now, because it has been a bit too long.

And I mustn't forget about school either, although it hasn't been too pressuring lately, so am grateful for that.

OMG! Guys, the Patriots are in the Superbowl!!

I feel so proud.

And if I actually cared about sports and/or knew what the heck I was talking about, I'd have something more intelligent to say about it.

But, I'm giddy about this fact.

I sure hope they win.

Oh, August Rush looks so romantic!!!!

Ahh, I want to see it so bad...but I don't think I can rope my brothers into seeing a chick-flick romantic movie with me!!

Arrrggg, it's at times like these that I really wish I had a sister whom I can relate the romantic in me with.

All the movies my brothers want to see have to involve something getting blown up/someone getting their arm or limb getting chopped off/Satan killing everyone or something to those extents. Which, honestly, aren't my movie tastes. (Well, I won't turn down a scary movie, but only if I can watch it with the lights on...)

Oh, well...

The Moving Finger writes; and having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

Wow, you know I have tried to stay away from lj for one week? (Wasn't very successful though because I cheated once.) And now I feel so disconnected! (I am so addicted to this thing.)

Catching up on some memes.

This week's [livejournal.com profile] fannish5:

Name five minor characters whose lives and histories you'd like to see explored more (in canon or fanfic). (Not so much minor characters, well with a few exceptions.)

1. Doctor Who: Sally Sparrow. I loved her and I wish they'd show more of her. She's so...cool!

2. Inuysha: Inu no Taishou. I wish we could know more about him. He sounds very interesting.

3. Twilight: Emmett Cullen. I love Emmett. I wish we could get some info on his life before he became a vampire. Every Cullen's story was told but his. WHY???

4. Torchwood: Ianto Jones. We get little snippets into his life, but not a lot.

5. Howl's Moving Castle: the Witch of the Waste. Even though she's not my most favorite character, I'd really wish we could get some insight into her life, like why she was the way she was in both the movie & book.

NANOWRIMO: I'm not "officially" participating this year. (Which just means that I haven't gotten a chance write a single word yet and so, besides the busy time November is going to be for me without even NaNo, I will not be participating this year. Which does make me sad. :( But on the bright side, I will still be working on the three original stories I did start on some time ago. Hopefully I can finish one of them before the month ends. We shall see.)

Um, what else? Oh, I just finished reading the MOST AWESOME BOOK in the universe! Poison by Chris Wooding (and the title is misleading in a way). Anyone read any of his work? He is an award-winning author. But I haven't heard of him until some four weeks ago. (Lol.)

He wrote several other books like Storm Thief,The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray, and Kerosene. (Among other things.) He is a very young author though. (Which surprised me when I googled him. I thought he was some old guy.) And he mainly writes science-fi/young adult.

Poison is about this young girl named Poison whose baby sister Azalea is kidnapped by phaeries. Poison decides to leave Gull to seek the Phaerie Lord to get her sister back. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't want to spoil anyone in case they want to read it. But it's definitely going to surprise them once they get to the end. Wooding creates twists and turns that you can barely know what will happen next. And the writing is phenomenal. The characters are developed nicely and three-dimensional; you can sympatize with them. Besides the awesome characters, there's also a lot of suspense and action (that I liked and kept me interested in the story). The novel is very imaginative and original.

My little book review of this novel doesn't do it justice. But that's because it's so good I have no idea how to even being a good review of it. I am left speechless. I would read this, just because it's interesting.

And I should post this all ready; the browser has been open since this morning...

So...I did nothing today.

Makes me feel a bit guilty honestly.

But this is absolutely addicting...so, it helps me procrastinate and apparently helps feed the world. HOW COOL IS THAT??

[Okay, geeky moment over...]

[300 grains of rice... =^^=]

Ugly Betty
-Aww, Henry is the best. ^___^
-Yeah for Marc! He was so cute there at the end. ("So what happens if I get scared?")
-Not enough Amanda appearances in this eppy. T_T
-Justin's...attitude isn't really all that believable. Maybe it's the actor, but I found myself wincing at his screen time. It really isn't him.

also there's this cool article on manga
