Title: My Muse
Day/Theme: July 30/ This is not a love song.
Series: Kyle XY
Character/Pairing: Lori/Declan
Rating: G
Warnings: spoilers for the second season
Declan watches her fingers slowly moving upon the chords and the pick in her hand moving hypnotically.
She's a good guitar player, he muses. Her bruised face shines enthusiastically and he can't help some foreign emotion from inflating his heart. He wishes that things between them were different. But he can't be with her and he just needs to deal with it.
The chord strikes a last note before it vanishes into the air. Like it was never really there.
"You're very good." He compliments and cannot stop his mind from thinking about her warm, sweet kisses and how good she feels-felt- in his arms; how they fit together so well.
"Thanks. You're my inspiration, you know." She gives him a dazzling smile, and yet he can detect a little bit of sadness in them. Because he knows her. He will always know her, inside and out, no matter what happens.
He nods and the room plunges into an awkward silence. He doesn't really know what to say. No, he has many things to say. But he can't. Censorship and all that crap. The guitar falls into her lap and she folds her hands upon it. He has the sudden urge to explain his behavior. He can't though and it's frustrating because he really doesn't want this. He doesn't want them to be strangers to each other; pretending to be happy and to have moved on. Because despite outward appearances, it's hard to move on with one's life when they lost the best thing in said life.
He knows this. He also knows that he still loves Lori, but she broke it off and he can't tell her about Kyle or about his behavior. It's for her own good. Ironically, she somehow still gets hurt.
He rises from the bed and goes over to the window.
"Well, I should go." His fingers rest on the latch. She clears her throat and says goodbye to him. He climbs out and she stays on the bed. Finally, after what feels like an eternity passes by, she picks up her guitar once again and softly strings the chords into a sweet melody.
This is not a love song, she thinks. If it were, she wouldn't be playing it.
Some things go and some things go for a reason. She believes this now. And it somewhat comforts her. You lose one thing, you gain another. It's how life goes.
