I haven't really thought about this show in such a long time and I'm not really in the fandom actively, but yesterday I came across a Hey Arnold fic and that inspired me. I love Arnold and Helga.

"Helga, do you like me?" Arnold asked Helga one morning at school, hopping that his question wouldn't invite the angry girl to bite his head off. Arnold felt like trying to avoid a fuming, hungry shark whenever he was conversing with Helga.
The aforementioned angry girl just crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at the blond boy.
"N-no!" She snapped and turned sideways in her seat. Arnold stood there silently for a minute before heading to his own seat. He really couldn't talk to Helga- about anything and, really the idea of Helga liking him was absurd. And if it weren't for Gerald's comment yesterday about Helga's anger towards him being just a cover-up for her true feelings, he would have left the idea alone. But now he couldn't. Not until he knew the truth and Helga's denial of her feelings didn't feel like the truth to him.
What was surprising to Arnold was that he didn't really hate the idea of Helga liking him. But he was confused about what he thought of the idea of liking Helga. It was an uncharted territory and something that Arnold thought was never going to happen in a million years. Helga hated his guts. Did that then mean that he hated Helga?
He stared at the back of Helga's head. He was the kind of guy who always tried to find the good in people and it wasn't like Helga wasn't a good person; it was just that she was mean to him. How could he like someone like that?
Unless she was only mean to him because she didn't want her true feelings to show! Arnold sank down further into his seat. Girls were so confusing.
The bell rang then and Arnold tried to focus his mind on what the teacher was saying. He decided that he wasn't going to give up on this mystery- no matter what it brought in the end.
In the front row, Helga's lips turned upwards slightly and her eyes turned dreamy. Oh boy, was she in trouble now. But just for those few minutes, she didn't lie to herself and had Arnold-filled visions running through her mind.
