Notes: (I can’t write anything gen! I did try with the Woolsey, Ronon, and Carson pieces though.) #1, #4, & #5 are gen, while #2 is Lorne/Parrish, and #3 is Elizabeth/Radek. #5 also references season five, episode two "The Seed", while the others are pretty general in regards to time line/spoilers. Written for the prompt "the five worst-kept secrets on Atlantis" for [livejournal.com profile] sg1_five_things.

1. It’s known quite well that Richard Woolsey never wanted to take command of Atlantis from Sam. He would’ve been much more comfortable back on Earth as an IOA representative. But Richard Woolsey prides himself on being an adaptable man, one who serves his country well, and rolls with the punches. He likes to think that he’s fooling everyone with his confidence and his adherence to sticking to protocol, but really, they all know he’s terrified of making the wrong choice, of costing so many lives.

2. The Atlantis expedition is only human after all so of course there will be gossip- who’s shacking up with who is the most talked about subject between them all. Chuck has a little book he keeps on himself at all times where he records people’s guesses about who’s romantically involved with whom. The first name he records is Lorne’s. That first year, most people thought he had a crush on Cadman and bet that they’d be together before year’s end. It made sense. Cadman and Lorne were civil with each other, and their personalities were alike (both were strong and loyal people) that it made sense. And then during the second year, a new botanist – a male botanist- shows up and suddenly Lorne is found to be spending all of his time with him. Suffice to say, people start changing their bets to when Lorne and Parrish will get it on (if they haven't started already).

3. Another bet people are very sure about is Zelenka’s crush on Elizabeth. They (mostly Carson and Sheppard and McKay) have tried to spur him on to do something, but Zelenka is stubborn in his shyness and is sure of Elizabeth’s rejection that he’s turned a silent ear on them all. Quite frankly, it’s no one’s business but his. Meanwhile, Elizabeth sets out each evening to be alone in her quarters with two glasses of red wine on her desk, waiting, hoping. She would wait for him all her life if she has to. (Thankfully she doesn’t, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves, that’s an entirely different story.)

4. The most mysterious person on Atlantis is Ronon. No one disputes this fact; after all, Ronon’s first day on Atlantis, he never said a word to any of them, and just grunted when spoken to. People could understand why he’d be apprehensive about joining a new community of people. He was on the run from the Wraith for seven years, and lost his home planet. Not one of them knew exactly what he personally experienced. Yet, though Ronon doesn’t share much about himself, they do know one thing he probably thinks is a secret: he misses his home world and all the people he left behind what seems like a century ago.

5. They all know when Carson says “I’ll be in my office looking over the inventory,” what he really means is he’ll be taking a bottle of gin and going through all of it in one night. Ever since Keller returned him from stasis and he worked on saving her from becoming a Wraith ship, he’s been on pins and needles. It’s only a matter of time before they send him back to Earth to die.
