Just a note: these two are angsty. Not at all happy. Bleah.

"You're staring at me." All knowing, and amused. Maybe a bit appreciative?

Nothing. Silence from his right side.

"Why are you staring at me?" Maybe not so much amusement now. A bit of annoyance and impatience crept into his voice.

Yet, the blond head lying next to his didn't say anything.

"Rose..." Now whiny and pleading. This couldn't go on all night. She needed her sleep. He needed his sleep.

He opened his eyes, and turned to look at her pointedly. But, there wasn't anyone there. His pointed look turned into a confused and bewildered one.

"Oh." The Doctor stared disbelievingly beside him. He could've sworn he felt her there.

It was just his imagination. He turned over onto his side on the bed, and looked straight into the darkness; kept on staring for quite a while- kept on staring until his eyes couldn't handle it anymore and shut close of their own volition and tiredness.

The Doctor was starting to worry. This had never happened before. He had never imagined someone who wasn't there into existence before.

Summary: Donna listens and ponders, but that's all she can do. And that is never enough, never enough for her.

Notes: This one contains a spoiler about a certain companion who'll be joining the Doctor in season four...

Donna looks over at the Doctor, his eyes scanning the horizon of the purple and blue sunsets.

"Tell me about her." She asks softly. She doesn't need to specify who she's talking about. After the few times the Doctor mentions her, her name then never gets spoken again. Rose Tyler is no more than a pronoun between them. Even Donna, however, can see how much more she is to the Doctor.

Donna can see it in his eyes whenever he speaks of his friend- he loves her. Plain and simple.

"Oh, she was a normal girl, loved to eat chips. She had one heck of a mother though. Ahhh, good ol' Jackie. Now there was a human who could probably scare the Quafflentbavs into peeing their pants." Donna rolls her eyes and doesn't even think to stop and ask him what they are, instead she listens on.

"She…she was great and smart and beautiful. She loved everything and was compassionate. She couldn't see anything hurting if she could help it."

Donna smiles every now and then, and the image of the girl who had stolen the Doctor's heart is engraved in Donna's mind, piece by piece. Donna sits still upon the granite cliff top and listens to the Doctor softly talking and watching the suns in the distance fall below the horizon. It takes Donna's breath away, the places and things they see and visit- even amongst all the bad and evil.

Donna can't help but think how fate could be so cruel as to separate them from each other. She thinks, after the Doctor finishes talking about Rose, that she'd like to help him reunite with Rose. But something tells her that will be beyond the impossible. She's a mere human. If a Time Lord can't even bring Rose back, what is she going to do about it?

In that moment, Donna hasn't felt so hopeless and small in all her life. She assumes, maybe love can't conquer all?

They were both beautifully sad, but I loved the second one best with Donna wanting to help, but feeling helpless.

That second one was heartbreakingly sad, but with wonderful characterisations.

Absolutly astounding.

*Tear* Both were fabulous. The first one was heart-breakingly beautiful and had me tearing up, but Donna's compassion and helplessness had them rolling. Brilliant job!
