hpgw100's theme 'Flying.' I tried it a second time to try to challenge myself to only 100 words. The alternative drabble can be found here. It's different from this one, but I like it all the same. ^^
Title: Girl versus Broom

Author's Notes: I always thought of brooms in the HP'verse as being kind of like cars; they have all these brands and models... Also, this is more of a vignette than a drabble. The alternative drabble can be found here. They're different fics, but both are based on the flying theme athpgw100
Ginny smoothed her hair out and pulled the corners of her lips into a tight, forced grin. She could do this. She'd just be honest with him.
"Um, Harry," she started, "something happened yesterday."
Harry gave her a grunt and went back to looking behind the sofa and desks and chairs in the common room.
"Harry, are you listening to me?"
"Not now, Ginny. I've lost my broom and can't find it anywhere."
Ginny gulped and went back to staring at the floor. Now was the perfect time… If only she could get the words past her throat.
"Y' know, you could just get a new broom…" Harry gave her a horrified look. "I mean, your Firebolt was getting kind of old and used… I do think that you could benefit from a brand-new broom. Change is always good and now, you can get an even better brand. Something so much better and faster than the Firebolt. Imagine that!"
Ginny kept smiling hugely while Harry gave her a weird look.
"Ginny?"
"Oh, all right! I admit it: I took out your broom this morning, but Fred and George bewitched it to fly on its own, but I didn't know and once I got on it, I couldn't stop, and it smashed against the castle and it all went into pieces. Oh, Harry, I'm so sorry! I really didn't mean for your broom to get destroyed." Ginny tried to take a breath from confessing all this without stopping, but that made her sob even harder from all the effort it was taking to rein in her emotions.
Harry stood dumbfounded for a moment, but after Ginny's tears gained even more momentum, he found his arms enveloping her into a hug of their own accord.
"It's okay." He rubbed the small of her back and glanced around the room uncomfortably. Where was Hermione when you needed the girl?
"My broom is smashed? Really?" He asked incredulously a few minutes later. He had loved that broom. That broom was fantastic. That broom was his life, his soul. What was he going to do without his broom? Flying was the only thing he felt he had a control of in his life. Besides that, it was exhilarating flying through the limitless white-blue sky.
"Harry, are you terribly angry with me?" Ginny sniffled a bit and wiped the tears off her cheeks.
"Nah. Like you said- I can always get a new broom, but you're irreplaceable."
Ginny gazed at him, gently stroking his cheek with the tips of her fingers.
"Hey, those were Ron's words, not mine." Ginny pulled back and punched him in the arm as hard as she could. She turned and ran up the stairs toward her dormitory.
"I was only kidding. I love you. Ginny?" He shouted at her. But she had all ready fled out of sight, leaving Harry standing alone at the foot of the stairs.
This was totally unfair, Harry reflected. He was the one who should've been angry. After all, she was the one who destroyed his broom and he only made a joke. But- and if Harry was being totally honest with himself- he really missed Ginny more than his missed his broken broom at the moment. Ginny made him feel like he was flying through the universe and not just the sky.
