She stands frozen. Still as a stone. She can’t quite believe what she hears.

Naruto, cheering.

For her.

He, cheering for her because he wants her to win. Her.

The person she admires the most. The strongest person she has ever met. The person that she wants to be. The person that she wants to be noticed by more than anything.

Cheering for her...

The feeling of his attention on her is exhilarating.

She doesn’t think he would ever give her the attention she gives him. What is she to him, but a shy, mumbling person? Why would he choose to cheer for her when Neji is clearly the stronger, better genin between the two of them?

Why would he cheer for her when Neji is obviously the one he should cheer for because Neji would win this match?

She doesn’t dwell on the whys though because she’s happy that he does cheer for her that she doesn’t want to question it. This sparks hope in her heart. Hope that Naruto does notice her. Small, shy, weak her.

The fact that he’s watching gives her courage.

The courage to try.

Even if she fails, she’ll try because that’s what Naruto would do.   

Her head falls down to her chest. And she gets ready to face her fate.
