Sailor Moon: A Naru/Umino fanmix

This was created for sailormoonland's current challenge, moonie tunes.

I decided to do a fanmix involving Naru/Umino because I love them to bits and they're mostly overlooked for the other pairings/characters found in SM. I should also warn you I'm not the greatest at explaining myself and why I've chosen these songs; I'm afraid it's all rather simple and kinda like "duh." Oh, and all music is linked to Youtube. :D

This where things began for Naru and Umino. He had a pretty big crush on Usagi but it was clear that she didn’t feel the same way. Enter Naru – a girl who seems to like him for himself and isn’t repulsed by him! True love!


2. KEITH URBAN – Kiss A Girl
To kiss and tell it's just not my style
But the night is young and it's been awhile
And she broke my heart, broke it right in two
And it took some time but I'm feeling like I'm
Finally ready to find, find somebody new

I wanna kiss a girl
I wanna hold her tight

I think this song speaks to the desire Umino might have to experience what it feels like to be romantically involved with a girl. And Umino is one of those guys, who, at least to me, seems to love with all his heart. He might not be the tall, dark, handsome heartthrob every girl swoons for, but in the end, he's the better choice because he loves unconditionally and is a faithful guy.

3. TEARS FOR FEARS - Head Over Heels

Don't throw it away

I think Umino’s crush toward Naru develops gradually from a friendship into something deeper.

4. SANTANA FT. CHAD KROEGER - Why Don't You and I

I'm like a love-sick puppy chasing you around
ooo and it's alright
Bouncing round from cloud to cloud
I got the feeling like I'm never going to come down
If said I didn't like it then you know I'd lied

I sort of always had it in my head that Umino first started falling for Naru and then she followed. I don’t think it was ‘love at first sight’ necessarily, but more of a friendship type love, and this song would probably be used by Umino to convince Naru that she should date him.

5. JOSS STONE - Fell In Love With A Boy
Fell in love with a boy
I fell in love once and almost completely
He's in love with the world
And sometimes these feelings can be so misleading
He turns and says, "Are you alright?"

Sarah says it's cool, she don't consider it cheating

Naru has already fallen in love once before, but that obviously didn’t work out with Nephrite dying, but Naru needs to move on and find somebody to love that’s right for her.

6. MODERN ENGLISH - Melt With You

I saw the world thrashing all around your face
Never really knowing it was always mesh and lace

I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time

Let’s face it: I’m pretty sure Umino would love to *melt* with Naru (interpret that however you will).

7. RICHARD MARX – Hold on to the Nights
How do we explain

Love that is real but in disguise

That all lovers play the fool
I don't know how
To stop feeling this way

I’m pretty sure I picked this song mostly because I just wanted to have at least one Richard Marx song on here because he’s a pretty romantic guy (at least to me) and no love fanmix would be complete without including one of his songs. This particular one expresses to me all of Naru’s & Umino’s promises to each other – and how surprising it is that they ended up together.

8. JESSE MCCARTNEY – Because You Live
Because you live, and breathe
Because you make me believe in myself when nobody else can help (when no one else can help)
Because you live girl, my world (my world) has twice as many stars in the sky

Because you make me believe in myself when nobody else can help

This song encompasses to me what Naru must mean to Umino, and he to her.

9. LONESTAR – Amazed
I don't know how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you
It just keeps getting better

On the flipside, this would be what Naru feels for Umino. This love is proving to be all she's wanted and more.

10. JORDIN SPARKS – No Air

It's how I feel whenever you ain't there
It's no air, no air
Got me out here in the water so deep

And we end on this song: on the note that carries with it the feeling when a first love reaches its pinnacle, where the other person is all you can think about and you're floating on cloud nine.

Naru/Umino is one of my top favorite Sailor Moon pairings, and I just watched episode 32 today. So finding this was the icing on the OTP cupcake! <3 This is lovely, and I adore the writeups for the songs and the descriptions of the relationship.
