{SailorMoonLand special 35 themes crossover challenge} Period One: Homeroom

OK, so I feel like I have to explain that I have been working on this for the past three weeks and then I proceeded to hide from it by reading much more fantastic fics because I did not want to work on it as I felt pretty burned out writing wise. This also sucks, I have no idea why I even started writing it in the first place except for the fact that it's for a challenge for [livejournal.com profile] sailormoonland and I really would love to help my teammates (but the muse, she is vicious and cruel). The story also sounded much more exciting in my head, but written down, not so much. I still hate it and I don't think there's gonna be any more (which is a shame because there go all those lovely points down the drain). *sigh* I just wish I hadn't written it as one story. But I apparently like making this hard on my self. *cries*

themes completed: 4/35

1a. Locker

This story begins with a locker - an unassuming locker that was situated in the freshman hallway in Juuban Junior High School and that belonged to Serena Tsukino. Serena Tsukino wasn’t what you’d call a good student. She was often late to school, classes, forgot her lunch, homework and books on numerous occasions.

But there was something particularly different about this one locker that belonged to her…it was haunted.

It was haunted by a ghost named Serenity. The notable thing was that Serena had no idea that her locker was haunted. Now this was understandable as Serena hardly even remembered she had a locker in the first place.

What Serenity was doing haunting this unassuming locker, she had no idea – well, not until recently anyways. Serenity firmly believed the young girl was her only hope of reuniting with her lover, Endymion.

Endymion, it must be said, was also dead and a ghost. But a ghost, unfortunately, that was stuck – and spending all eternity - in limbo…He couldn’t cross over into that bright Light that was said to be waiting for everyone when they took their last breath on earth.

Serenity herself saw the Light and could’ve crossed over centuries ago. Yet, I have to ask, what good would the after life (if there was such a thing) be without the ones you loved? Serenity didn’t want to know the answer to that question unless Endymion was there by her side to learn it too.

1b. Uniform

Juuban Junior High School had a special treat for its students Friday morning – vanilla, chocolate, rocky road, and sherbet flavored ice cream.

Serena was pretty much creating a river of drool around the surrounding area staring at the buckets of ice cream lined up in the cafeteria. The fact of the matter was she liked all four flavors equally and it was hard choosing only one. Like really, majorly difficult. Her stomach decided it was in a sherbet flavor kind of mood though and she figured she’d be wise to listen to it so she scooped up large spoonfuls into her bowl, salivating slightly around the mouth.

Returning to her seat, not really looking where she was going, but giving all her attention to the awesome big bowl of ice cream on her tray, she bumped into someone.

“Ahh, I’m sorry!” She said, looking up and - once she realized who she had bumped into – trying to contain the sudden rage that bubbled in her.

The person she had bumped into was Darien Shields – the mysterious, cool, handsome, extremely popular Darien Shields who had the great luck to Ann Deveraux’s boyfriend, the most popular and horrible girl in Juuban Junior High – who loved to literally run into Serena and tease her about her clumsiness.

Serena realized why Darien bumped into her this time – although, really, it mostly happened because the universe had it out for her and that was almost always reason enough, Serena had herself convinced – he had a book open in his hands and was staring intently into it, again.

“Watch where you’re going, Meatball head,” he gave her his usual retort but without a twitch of his mouth to indicate his amusement and started on his way to Ann’s table. He seemed unusually distracted today, Serena noted.

Sitting next to Mina and her other friends at their table, Serena went to work on eating the ice cream. She wasn’t even done with chewing her first bite when she heard someone clearing their throat behind her. Mouth full of ice cream, she turned and her eyes bulged. It was Ann, staring daggers at her, helped by her posse of mean girls with impeccably straight, shiny hair and manicured fingers.

“Hello, Serena,” Ann said, mouth wide in an impossibly fake smile. Serena gulped down the rest of the ice cream in her mouth. This day was turning sour. She hoped Ann’s cruelty today would be brief. It was ice cream day! There was no place for the cloud of despair Ann brought with her on such an awesome day!

“Hi, Ann,” Serena replied, cautiously.

The red-headed girl came closer – a bit too close for comfort. “I just wanted to ask how the ice cream was.”

“It’s fine.”

Ann leaned over the table, hand going toward Serena’s spoon as if she were going to pick it up, but, at the last second, her hand changed direction and pushed the bowl of ice cream over the edge of the table, deliberately knocking it into Serena’s lap.

Serena gasped as the cold ice cream soaked into her school uniform.

The whole school was looking at them now. Serena stood up, trying to clean her uniform. Ann smirked and left, obviously satisfied with herself.

It was turning out to be such a good day too…

1c. Classroom

Serenity watched Serena in detention from one corner of the room. There was a notebook full of blank pieces of paper open and a Hello Kitty pencil case on Serena’s desk and was scribbling something while Serenity watched her.

The facts of Serenity’s tragic past were these: in order for her to be reunited with Endymion, she needed to end the spell that the evil Queen Beryl had placed on him when he wouldn’t return Beryl’s love. She knew when Serena entered Juuban Junior High and her ghostly presence stuck to Serena like she was a puppet and Serena was her master, that Serena was the one destined to help her.

For one, Serena was an exact carbon copy of Serenity – except for the clothes that revealed Serenity was not from this time period or place – right down to the blonde hair styled in two buns atop her head. It was quite strange, but not unexpected for Serenity knew of such things as destiny and reincarnation. And - simply put - Serena was the modern version of Serenity, which also meant that the fate that awaited Serenity at the end of her life would surely await Serena as well. That was another obstacle she had to convey to her modern self – how to keep from dying at a young age and at the hand of evil and losing her love to that evil.

And two, this belief of reincarnation was further cemented when Darien Shields transferred to the school – for it was clear as day that Darien Shields was the reincarnation of Endymion.

Serenity blinked and appeared next to Serena, who had her head turned down and was drawing something with an intense determination that Serena wasn’t known to give to her schoolwork. Serenity tried to get a glimpse of the paper but Serena’s head covered it from view.

“What is that?” Serenity asked herself, not expecting an answer from anyone around her.

Something else she wasn’t expecting was for Serena to scream and whip her head up to look at Serenity like she…saw and heard her.

But that was obviously the case as Serena was glaring *straight* at her.

“What?” Serena asked, clearly annoyed and blinking in Serenity’s general direction. Serenity looked behind her to see if there was a chance Serena was talking to someone else…

But no. There were two other students but they were still in their seats, rows upon rows away from Serena and looking at her strangely.

“I asked you a question.”

Serenity pointed to herself. “Uh, y-you mean me? You asked me a question?”

“Well, of course I asked *you* a question. Do you see anyone else standing around?”

Serenity shook her head, slowly. “You mean you can see me?” She leaned in toward Serena, waving her hand in front of the girl.

“What do you mean can I see you? Of course I can see you!” Serena was gesticulating in a wild manner, not believing this girl who looked like *her* and was proving to not be the sharpest crayon in the crayon box.

That was when Serena saw her two classmates looking at her weirdly. “Guys, you can see this clone of mine, can’t you?”

The two students, a boy and a girl, shook their head.

“Are you alright, Tsukino?” The boy asked.

Serena smiled in a nervous manner, getting up from her seat on unsteady legs.

“Oh, oh, I’m just fine.” She laughed, while packing her stuff and edging toward the exit. “It was just a rhetorical question – never mind me and my rambles. OK, I’ll see ya, guys.” With that, Serena sped out of the room, Serenity close behind her.

The boy turned around in his seat. “I don’t think she’s supposed to leave yet. Is she allowed to leave yet?”

The girl shrugged. “Ah, Miss Haruna is used to her leaving detention early.”

1d. Homework

“Before you all leave, here’s the upcoming assignment – interviews. I’ll pair you up and your jobs will be to ask personal questions about each other and write a report. I’ve prepared some personal questions that you all may use but you don’t necessarily have to adhere to them – if you find you want to ask some personal questions of your own, feel free. Now there is a limit to how personal these reports will be, so if your partner isn’t up to answering a particular question, they’re free to skip it. I’ve written the names of both partners on the sheets I’ll be handing out.”

The teacher walked around the room, handing out the stapled assignment to every student. Once Serena got a copy, her eyes widened both in surprise and horror. She didn’t know whether to thank or curse whoever was up there and paired her up with Darien Chiba. Alright, so she might’ve had a habit of secretly watching the guy and brooding over him, but he was clearly taken and Ann had a jealously streak that would rival a cat’s once someone got near their mouse toy (Ann probably did think of Darien as her mouse toy). She didn’t want to have to work with Darien on the assignment, that’d just give Ann more ammunition to be mean to her.

On the other hand…she also couldn’t help but feel giddy at the prospect of actually being able to talk to Darien without him teasing her or her reacting angrily to it.

She looked down at the paper, pretending to read over it while she glanced nonchalantly beneath her eyelashes up toward the front row where Darien was seated. She couldn’t see his face or what he thought of the assignment, but she hoped that whatever he was thinking, that it was a good thought.
