I find it extraordinary that these people can do this when SOPA and that PIPA thing was quashed, a de facto SOPA and ACTA? I wonder why these providers are even doing this, the real copyright pirates that sell in public places the stacks of burned disks, they won't be stopped, it is the people using the service to check out new content, to taste a little of something they like and most of the downloaders I knw buy the materials they liek and delete what they don't.
I wonder if this is passed into law, if not, they may be breeching privacy laws, even their own, I would if in the US seek legal opinon on this, it may not be so dire, I hoep not anyway, there are some companies that target innocent home downloaders, but the real bad guys with warhouses full of booty get away scot-free and this new imposition upon the values of freedom won't do a thing to change that. I hope this program BT Guard helps.
I suspect it won't be fanart or fic etc, as 'Fair Use laws' allow people to do that without risk of harassment. I am so sorry to hear this Lady J, looks like we'll have to exchange by email in drips and drabs if it turns out bad.
I will send the link to Avaaz.org and see what their people have to say on this, <333 PS:
Oh, it is that dreaded ACTA as far as I know, this might still be stopped, apparently, according to Avaaz.org, there is a ratification phase to make this go ahead, I am not sure where things stand right now, as I've heard nothing since the last update a couple weeks ago but the EU rep resigned over his role and countries are backing off, it is essentially a European proposal, and though signatures of governments signing behind the backs of their people in 39 countries have done this, there is I hope still that one last chance to scuttle it, I will try and find out and get back to you on this, but this is awful!
I think it sad as there is nothing said at all about hoe many musicians and creative people gain new markets from the simple home user who tries and usually buys, though not always, there is an element of win-win, but if this does go through all the way, it will cut off a lot of artists from potential fans
