Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer

So I went to my local comic store again today and shamelessly spent a lot more money on more comics. (Self-control, I haz it not but thankfully, there was a $26 discount in there so I didn't end up spending as much as I would've without the discounts.) I brought Spider-Woman: Origin, The Amazing Spider-Man: Secret Invasion, Young Avengers: Family Matters (which is a compilation of issues #7-#12 and Young Avengers Special #1 - of course I'd have loved to get the beginning issues too, but the store didn't have them so will keep a lookout on them), and What If? Secret Wars #1, which is a compilation of Captain America: Fallen Son, House of M, Spider-Man: Back in Black, Newer FF, and Young Avengers/Runaways and answers such questions as what if Doctor Doom kept the Beyonder's power? What if Iron Man had died instead of Captain America? What if the Scarlet Witch had said, "No more powers" instead of "No more mutants?" What if Mary Jane was shot instead of Aunt May? What if the new Fantastic Four stayed together as a group? And finally, what if the Runaways became the Young Avengers?" Which is all YAY and makes me ^__________^ and *____________*.

Still didn't get to buy Abandon by Meg Cabot, but the store ordered it for me and will be here by Wednesday so hopefully will have it in my possession by then.

It's kinda funny that I've just been buying Marvel stuff. I didn't intend for it to end up like that intentionally, it's just all the characters I've been interested in have been from titles that Marvel's published (X-Factor, Runaways, Young Avengers, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four, once I figure out where I want to start with them - not from the beginning, LOL) but I totally do want some DC titles too and have been meaning to check out Birds of Prey, not just because it's a DC title but it's primarily focused on female superheroes, which, HELLO, YAYNESS. (And Batgirl sounds awesome too. And of course Batman and Superman titles would be awesome to get into too but Batman & Superman have been around relatively a lot longer than Batgirl or Birds of Prey. Batgirl didn't appear as a character until '61 whereas Batman's been around since the late 30s.)

There were also some Tiny Titans issues I've been thinking about buying some day because they're all just so cute! And I've read the Tiny Titans: Sidekickin' It trade back before and it was so funny and witty for an all-ages comics. (And I find it funny that in Tiny Titans, Slade is the principal of their side-kick school and Darkseid is the janitor/whatever-else-Slade-wants-him-to-be, especially because in the DC continuity verse, Slade and Darkseid are very evil and creepy but Tiny Titans does even say in its comic that it's not part of the continuity so it really should be enjoyed for its adorableness - which I have no problem with.)

After attending my brother's fiancée's graduation on Saturday, we (my brothers, my brother's fiancee, and her mother, who I incidentally met for the first time on Saturday) all went out to lunch to Kons Asian Bistro, where I had the filet mignon and shrimp combo - because I absolutely love shrimp, seriously my love for shrimp knows no bounds, I wish I could eat it everyday - and they all had a combination of chicken, salmon, and filet mignon too. And of course we got some combo of vegetables and hibachi fried rice. It's always awesome to have a hibachi table and be entertained while waiting for the food.

So it was a good week. And I finished my second year of undergraduate college last Wednesday too.

And will end this post with the awesome Tiny Titans: Sidekickin' It cover:

Hi Lady J, congrats on completing the second year college undergrad! <3

The comic titles sound interesting, and my housemate, an avid comic fan asked me to ask:

Is Brian Michael Bendis stilll writing The Avengers?

He met the author at a con a few years ago and said he is a really graet guy...

I hope you have a wonderful week too and that food at your family get-together sounded great, shrimp, Yum, my friend Sandra who was a former housemate of mine and Kat's a few years ago loves shrimp as much as you and makes a great risotto BTW, =^_^=

Um, I want to say yes, but I don't know definitively if Brian Michael Bendis is still writing The Avengers (it's not a title I've picked up yet, although I do want to get into it some day) and with how comics work, it's not a simple, straight answer. I do know that he's working on a series called The New Avengers now, as the old team of Avengers are disassembled, I believe.

I don't know when your friend stopped following the Avengers/BMB work, but a lot has happened in the comic news regarding the Avengers.

There was a comic book story arc called The Avengers: Disassembled (a fairly recent story arc) wherein the old team of Avengers broke up and then a new team of the Avengers was reconstructed under the title New Avengers which BMB now works on, I know that much. And the New Avengers is a 2005 title.

Avengers: Disassembled was the first story arc in a controversial 3 part story arc by Marvel in which this character called the Scarlet Witch - who was part of the old Avengers team- has a nervous breakdown after she finds out that her children were a figment of her imagination and, because she's a powerful witch, she goes on a rampage and strips the majority of mutants of their powers - because the X-Men and the Avengers are sort of in the same comic universe and what happens to one team affects the other team as well. House of M is the second part and Civil War is the third part - Civil War, I'd say isn't really the third part of this whole arc so much as the aftermath of these whole events set off by the Scarlet Witch, it's more based on events after House of M so they're all interconnected.

this page (http://www.comicvine.com/avengers/49-10730/) is the Avengers: Disassembled issues page on ComicVine, a pretty good site for comics. particularly this section: Continued from Avengers vol.3, the series returned to it's original numbering with issue 500. Although the change was of short use, since issue 503 marked the last issue of the Avengers, and revamped the book into the New Avengers. which reiterates my point that the Avengers are no more and they're now called the New Avengers (Avengers Disassembled is then issues 500-503 of the Avengers and issue #500 was published in September of 2004).

The wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avengers_Disassembled) page on the Avengers: Disassembled title is also quite informative, if your friend doesn't mind getting spoiled with everything that's happened so far (and that's a lot that happens, that is even mentioned in some of the current titles I'm interested in right now, like The Young Avengers and X-Factor series - because like I said previously, in the comic universe, especially with a big Marvel event like this - more than one title will talk about it/will be affected by it).

I hope that helps your friend. And I hope you don't mind my rambling, I just love talking about comics. :D

Thanks Lady J, I passed on the info to my housemates, he was wondering if you read I think it was something like Powers, but my memory ATM is a little fuzzy, not feeling well, stomach bug... he mentioned Dar Devil I think it was, but he loves all the Marvel stufff, Dark Horse, Image is another I think, he posts a lot on FB the movie web posts, he is actually Kat's fiance, 'weird I know' but lilfe is a strange thing, more than fiction! LOL

I had a lot of trouble with LJ it keeps deleting the cookie, or somehting does and I have to keep re-logging in, it is so frustrating and I am hoping to eventually get another paid account, but haven't figured out how to do it myself yet. Kat got the last one last year, but ATM I am stuck with the adds and cannot tailor the page to a simple layout for my software, but guess it will work out soon, I wish LJ had a simply layout converter for screen reader users it would make llife much simpler for me, anyway, take care and I hope you have a wonderful week *huggles ya* <3333
